Before Revisions, the Eppard Brothers live duo, the Progressive Nation Tour, 3 Nights of 3, percussionist Joe Stote’s departure… there was Pieces of 3.
3 had just returned from a long year of touring in support of their first full Metal Blade release The End is Begun (when the band initially signed to MB in 2005 Wake Pig was rereleased with 2 bonus songs- “One Way Town” and “Circus Without Clowns.”) They hit North America hard with British progressive rock greats Porcupine Tree and also the German hard rock legends Scorpions. Before 2007 came to a close, 3’s music video “All That Remains” was voted into the top 20 of MTV Headbanger’s Ball’s music videos of the year!
For this show… Joey Eppard, Daniel Grimsland, Billy Riker and Gartdrumm kicked it at home for a fun, anything goes-kinda gig, performing songs that don’t usually see the light of day. Prior to the above video- Joey, Billy and Gartdrumm performed some covers and Geez Louise material with Tom Benton (who founded Planet Noise Records to put out 3’s Paint By Number. Half Life, Summercamp Nightmare and Wake Pig were also released on the label before 3 got picked up by Metal Blade. Planet Noise Records put out Joey Eppard’s solo album, Been to the Future as well. Tom Benton now owns and operates the Tom Benton School of Music / Planet Noise Music store in Woodstock. Joey gives guitar lessons at that location on Sundays). Joey entertained the crowd with a few solo songs before his current bandmates joined him on stage.
Enjoy the set! It would’ve gone on longer had the kick drum head not fallen apart. Well, that’s what happens when you let Josh Eppard use your kit!
